Keep Your Image Simple…

I shot this image in the dunes at a local beach. The curves of the bare tree mimicked the curves in the cloud pattern. A simple composition, but fairly effective.

Keeping the composition simple allows the viewers eyes to go right to the main subject and keeps the view from being distracted by a “cluttered” photo. Since the scene was devoid of interesting colors, black and white conversion worked well with this composition. By following the “Rule of Thirds” and offsetting the tree, It appears that the tree is in a barren landscape and the viewer feels a sense of vastness in the image.
